Ishi…in The Spirit of the Hunt

Ishi

Ishi, the last of the Yahi tribe, walked out of the wilderness on August 29, 1911.  He was befriended by his doctor, Saxton Pope, and the staff of the museum of anthropology at the University of California.  On March 25, 1916, Ishi died of tuberculosis.  Dr. Pope through his friendship and relationship with Ishi, later founded the nationally recognized “Pope and Young” archery society.
